Cities: Skylines shatters Paradox first-day sales records
Paradox Interactive set out to build a city, but it looks like developer Colossal Order has built an empire. Cities: Skylines has surpassed all of the publisher’s expectations and is reporting the highest opening day sales in its history.
In just the first 24 hours, Cities: Skylines has sold more than 250,000 copies (including pre-orders), blowing away any previous game in Paradox’s catalog. Paradox Interactive CEO Fredrik Wester issued a thanks to Paradox’s fanbase via a press release, but also made sure to thank Colossal Order for their efforts.
“Our congratulations and thanks must also go to developer Colossal Order for making what is being widely described as the new benchmark of the city building genre,” Wester added. “We have forged a strong partnership with them over a number of years through the release of Cities in Motion and Cities in Motion 2, and I am happy to see such a talented team now being widely applauded for their unmatched passion and skill.”
This looks to be the start of a very good month for Paradox Interactive. Later in March, they’re set to release the long-awaited Infinity Engine-built Pillars of Eternity.
